Board and Committee Positions

To be successful, organizations need good people who have a vision of what their association can do for them. Over the years NACM has been fortunate to have good people that were dedicated to making NACM East Coast the best resource a credit professional can have.

Each of us hopes to make a difference as we go through life. Serving on an NACM Committee or on the Board of Directors is one way to make that difference in your professional life. Everyone has something important to offer, whether it is advice on what you and your company are looking for or it is talking with members about the direction they would like to see the Association go.

Please consider offering to serve. The benefits are endless including building professional contacts, the opportunity to mold the direction of your association, taking a leadership and career building position, and receiving professional recognition— just to name a few.

Board Member Experience...
                                            by Sheila Kridler

Several years ago I had the opportunity to serve on the NACM Board of Directors. I thought that during this time, when we are seeking candidates to join our 2004 Board, I would share with you some of my thoughts on Board participation.

When I decided to serve as a Board member, I knew it would be a time and energy commitment.  As a busy working mother with a demanding full time job, did I really want another commitment?  Could I do it?  After some soul-searching and family discussions, I decided it was an opportunity I didn’t want to pass up.  I am SO glad now that I made that decision.

Working with our Board of Directors did so many things for me that it’s hard to list them all.  I formed long lasting bonds with some of my peers that would not have been possible had we not worked side by side for those years.  I made valuable contacts and had a whole new network of knowledgeable, experienced  people to help me.  I had the rewarding feeling of working for something I believe to be worthwhile.  I was able to share my ideas and contribute to the success of an association in a period of growth and change.  I had leadership opportunities above those available in my workplace, and I learned skills I would not have learned in my “day job”.

If you are like me, and feel you owe some of your career success to NACM participation, please consider joining the 2004 Board.  You will give up some personal time, but the benefits and rewards are worth it.

If being on the Board seems like a lot to bite off for you right now, consider committee membership.  It’s a good way to contribute in a less time-consuming way. You’ll be glad you did.
